Many readers lack empathy when it comes to complex and well-written villains. They quickly forgive and simp for characters like Taeju (and whoever else) bc of yaoi-logic character development, yet they are unable to do that for a character who is written realistically.
I mean, you can feel bad for him and hate him for what he did, you don't need to pick only one

That's what complex characters are supposed to make you feel : empathy AND hate
see, i struggle to see how people don’t understand that a majority of this (boy love) audience are women who can empathize with being raped/molested and abused by family/lovers. of course nobody’s saying to allow his trauma to justify his actions but that creates a reader and character bond that a LOT of the audience can connect with.
