They would have had a panel centered on the wound to highlight how profound it is that he cut it off. They made it unclear whether or not he did based on how much of each of his fingers are shown in subsequent panels bc it's a red herring. If I’m wrong then good—guys a dick lol ╮(￣▽￣)╭
