This question is addressed in the novel. When Josh asked Chase why didn't he find it weird that a beta can self-lubricate, Chase awkwardly replies don't beta male sometimes get wet if they're aroused? And from this answer, Josh quickly realizes not only was he Chase's first and only partner, Chase lacks proper sex education. Josh never asked, through educated guess and from context clue, realizes Chase was so traumatized by sex bc of his ruts and black outs, that he blocked off anything related to sex, including learning about what happens to alpha, omegas, and betas during sex.
After Chase answered Josh's question, Josh just says okay instead of telling Chase he was dumb lol. Josh didn't want to crush Chase's ego bc Chase was already self-conscious about his lack of sex experience.

Chase does remember, but he didn't know it was Josh. Chase is aware he slept with someone during his rut, but because it was during his rut, his memory is hazy.
Right, I'm not sure i buy that as a good explanation even though it's what's said in the novel (Josh's interpretation and what the author wants us to think).
I guess we agree that his sex education is poor? That's the only answer we really needed, But extrapolating that to saying he's blocking out any knowledge about sex at all because of trauma? This just isn't the case. He remembers having sex with someone, he knows how his dick works and where it goes. He doesn't not know what sex is or how it works. All he has wrong is that he thinks everyone gets wet when aroused. So by this logic he blocked out specifically that only omegas get wet? That's the only thing he seems to not know about sex with the different genders.
Also by this logic he doesn't know that he, an alpha, doesn't get wet when aroused? Or his assumption is that betas and omegas get wet but not alphas? How does he know that anyone gets wet if he's trauma blocking anything to do with sex?
He clearly has not fully blocked out the sex he had - he remembers doing something the one time he did it. All the other times he was in rut he was just drugged and passed out - not having sex so there is nothing to forget (i know he's traumatised by thinking he did it with a dog, also maybe their little brother? That was a translation confusion with the novel i read maybe) Only the time he vaguely remembers with Josh is the time he's ever actually had sex and it's kind of there in his memory. Clearly his sex education is not there, granted but I don't buy that it's through trauma.
Personally, I think it's bad writing to get him saying 'you're so wet' during sex and having the "oh, is he going to figure it out" aspect for tension. It does not make sense. But neither does him being chill with Josh having lied to him about sex and a baby for years so yeah.... what else would I expect from this author?
it's not a big deal, just feels like a 'it makes sense if you don't think about it' writing moment and it gets me every time it's in a story.
He remembers he had sex is not the same as blocking out sex and anything related to it. He wanted to find who he had sex with because he was afraid he raped the person while he was in rut. His first reaction when he found out Josh was the one he slept with was nausea bc he thought he raped Josh.
It's clear from him easily accepting Josh's explanation that Chase is clueless about sex and sex education. Coupled with his answer, thinking beta male can get wet like omegas that he doesn't have a proper sex education.
I don't find that really hard to believe, especially since some ppl STILL think people can't get pregnant if they're on their period. A person's knowledge on sex is dependent on how well they seek out the information.
Right, right, right, so I misunderstood what you meant. I thought by the phrase 'blocking out anything related to sex' you meant it was a trauma response leading to him forgetting anything he once knew. I did not think you meant an active choice to not learn about it out of fear around the subject. That makes more sense to me now.
I get it now - Chase does not know because he was never taught it in school or by a trusted adult and he never sought out the information for himself. I can agree and accept this works in the context of the story and him being a flawed character.
It still seems wild there would be no sex education for him, especially with him being such a rare alpha and the issues of people wanting to steal his sperm etc. Seems they might have wanted to teach him how it all works at some point for his own protection if nothing else, but I guess that's why he needs so much security!

I think it's bc when he presented as a Dominant Alpha and went to his dad and siblings for help, their response to him was to find an orgy party and spend his rut with whatever partner is available. And that seems to be most ppls typical response to Chase's ordeal about sex. So he has a bit of a jaded outlook when it comes to talking to ppl about sex. After all, Greyson's solution to Chase's reluctance to sex is find a dog or their youngest sibling to fuck :/
