It’s still an otome game, but he never really bothered with the dialogue or story part. When he played, he chose Baek Yu Seol as his character. Baek Yu Seol is technically a playable character like the others, but he’s so weak that no one usually picks him—so he is still considered as MC. he is not supporting side character like an NPC but just chose to support in this story. Tho he's been doing the opposite so far.

Wow (⊙…⊙ ) I’m realizing how far off my understanding of the story lore was from you guys’ comments. I thought the original novel was a romance, but was later adapted into a more open sandbox type online pc game. There’s a storyline, but no one’s obligated to follow it. But certain events only unlock by following the story- such as, the dragon that acts as the final boss- and as a shocking game twist- that dragon can only be defeated by Baek Yu Seoul since it’s somehow got every advantage against magic?I also thought that Baek Yu Seoul WAS a supporting character in the novel, and only a playable character in the game…

Nope that’s what I got in the beginning of the story. That he WAS a supporting character not much looked at but in the game he became a playable character but his specs weren’t good and difficulty was high - almost like an afterthought MC option.
However, apparently it’s in the school arch but hopefully we know more about the overall “game” storyline and direction it’s going in.
Cause he gets sucked in but just went with it… I don’t even know if he’s trying to find a way back or he just gave that up entirely. It’s hard to tell sometimes with isekai (unless they purposely specify).

Well.. now im confused. I didn't really consider the novel version of the game. I mean he said 'The game was supposed to he otome game meant to attract females, but instead it attracted more men" I rarely play games. So i thought playable characters in an otome game are MCs (meant to be beside heroins) not Side character.
If were going to consider the novel in this, then what u guys are saying makes sense, he is a supporting a character there cause Flame did not recognize him in the novel — cause he only exist in the game. Am i making sense? Or am i just dumb. Cause i dont play games really, i only played 2 otome games in my whole life.

So here’s how I see it: in the game, Baek Yul was technically a main or playable character — someone who could even end up with the heroine — but no one ever picked him because he seemed weak or unviable. But after getting isekai’d into the game world, he consciously chooses to take on a supporting role, letting the original “main characters” of the novel version take center stage while he works from behind the scenes. Soo.. He is an MC in the game and he is following the game's story not the novel.

Um, so… my limited understanding is this… originally there was a novel (a romance) and Baek was a supporting character in that novel. A really minor one. Later the novel was adapted into a game. It’s an otome game in a sense, but also not.
It’s got a setup where you can choose to (more or less) ignore the main story and focus on whatever you want. If you want to focus on learning magic, you can. If you want to focus on swordsmanship, you can. You can focus on politics and building your character’s reputation and influence… these types of games where you can “do whatever” are sometimes called “sandbox games”.
The reason we know this game isn’t a normal otome game is because there are male playable characters who were romance interests in the novel. Typically in an otome game, there is one playable character whose goal is to seduce the target characters. During the game, the playable character will try and capture target (seducible) characters by becoming affectionate with them. Once the playable character chooses a target character to capture, they need that target character to fall in love with them. If the target character falls in love with them then that’s considered winning the game. If the target character ends up hating them, that’s considered a bad ending. In many otome games, you can choose to seduce all the characters and get a harem ending, or seduce just one (it’s up to the player).
So since Baek is male, he shouldn’t be a playable character unless the target characters are female or the game is BL. In the original novel (that the otome game is based on) the MC was a female, and there were male love interests, and female antagonists and love rivals. So Baek being a playable character makes this otome game… not really an otome game. It’s a game based on a romantic story- but not necessarily an otome. There’s also the part where you don’t have to focus on the main story.
People didn’t want to play as Baek because his character is unable to learn magic, due to his physical constitution. Since it’s a magic world, where all the other characters can learn magic, no one wanted to play as the character with the no magic abilities.
However as a twist, towards the end of the main storyline, a dragon shows up that can only be defeated by someone who lacks magic. In the original novel, the magical characters didn’t successfully defeat the dragon. They did something else that required human sacrifice.
Only our MC, in the game version, was able to defeat the dragon by being a non-magical character. Apparently, in order to raise that non-magical character up to a level where you could defeat a dragon, you have to be a player who’s basically “stagnant water” (an obsessed gamer who focuses on one thing to the point of abnormality). Since no one else wanted to raise that character up to that level, no one else managed to defeat the dragon when it showed up in the video game.
In order to make Baek capable of defeating the dragon, Baek has to master that one short distance teleport spell (the only spell compatible with his body that’s always leaking magic). That spell is not supposed to be something where you can control the direction of where your character goes. The only reason our MC can control the direction is because he maxed out his character’s skill in that area, and his skill level transferred over with him when he Isekaid into the game. Think of this isekaid life as him playing the new life + version of this game.
I have a question. Isnt Baek Yu Seol the worst playable character? Worst but is still a character hence kind of an MC, just weak. But here in the story he mentioned he's a supporting character? Or thats just his plan? To support? Isnt this a dating sim game targeted for female, i expected more male mcs? Because so far this doesn't sound like a dating sim.. more like your typical Isekaid story.
