I never liked when BL main couple say to other people that they are cousins. Is it wrong to say "he's my friend" or "his dad and my dad are friends"?

Why lie and say cousins? Not all cousins look similar, but it's not even close.

I believe it was at the party they went to a few chapters back where they had agreed to introduce him as Aiden’s cousin to Aiden’s friends. I can’t remember which chapter it was though
