He’s not psychotic. He’s lived in a world where he has no one to rely on and no one to befriend. It was a dog eat dog world where you trust and help no one. Now he’s living in high society where life lives on manners and not genuine care and compassion. His environment hasn’t changed and he has no need to change. He’s a perfect gentleman. Literally. Nothing says they have to go out of their way when no one is watching or for a commoner. Nothing says he has to uphold certain values even in the face of royalty that now is angry at him. She is the weird one. She is the one breaking the mould. She’s the one who was born in this life and got burned by it so she chose to step outside of the box. But everyone else very much lives in the box. That’s why she clashes with everyone. She was too nosy with Gabriel, too impolite with her friends, too casual with both of her fiancés, too selfish with her father and too improper with the princess. She’s been in high society for a long long time and yet she doesn’t understand how it works AT ALL! This is an author issue not a character issue. This is a historical story based on European history and yet clearly the author hasn’t actually researched anything for that time period or how they speak/act. He’s actually the only character that fits the era.
