Growth is never easy and its ugly, ripping off a part of you that you grown up to. It's unpleasant, and not linear. And most importantly, it does not happen overnight. Although jaekyung is aware of how much an asshole he is, he's trying to rip his roots and face his trauma about his father and upbringing as a child. Hurted people, hurt people, but healed people heal people. (I'm not trying to justify jaekyung, just wanted to say he already knows why he's being an a*hole, and he's trying to change that, and for me it's already a start). I think the author is trying to portray real growth and healing.
