Oh. You're half right lol. She does choose herself. Nasar is there by her side at the but the romance is very subtle. Is their relationship romantic or not? I'm not sure. This story doesn't focus on romance in the first place.

it’s true that the story buts the romance on the back burner but near the end of the novel they get into a relationship and phil acknowledges her insecurities held her back from truly expressing her feelings for nasar.
