I think it’s less about being more attracted to those who hurt him and more about not understanding gentle caring love. He seems very self destructive and since they take everything out on him that you can see the evidence of their love then ig he thinks it’s more worthwhile than smth that he can only feel and not see. I think there was a comment that spoke about this a bit more. Doesn’t change the fact that Mc is being an ass but it’s not like he’s just like that with no explanations
