Speaking on the art alone

I don't see why people complain about the art. The proportions are fine, the shading look good, and there're plenty of details; it's beautiful. I don't understand why people see this as weird; not every drawing style should look like anime-esque, and I also like the rougher looking men, and I think other should too if they love someone like "Ajussy" from Dangerous Convenience Store.

tbh the faces look somehow flat even though there’s a lot of detail…it just doesn’t look right and that’s the first thing i noticed when i started reading

I ran to the comments after chapt 1 to see what yall would say about the art! Its distracting - I literally put my finger over the faces and realize that's what's wrong. So much background detail, portions aren't bad but somehow the arrangement of facial features is weird.

I can see that point. I don't know if I'm not noticing it as much because I have to focus to see and understand the critique. This might be a matter of not-as-experienced illustrator; looking at mangaupdate, it seems to be their only work, so I think that's at least somewhat excusable.
And like the person above me, I think everything else is fine; it's definitely not the worse case of facial flatness because we have the first season of "The Abyss" with literal paper white faces.
