coz not everyone sympathize and tolerates shitty behaviors? lmao chasing arcs makes for good plot and character development (mostly) which btw is a core element of a decent story; if I wanted just realism why bother reading fiction at all? I live in reality already, plenty of people with even worse personalities than these characters, why on earth would I want media contents (w/c I use to escape from reality) to bleed in these type of people as is with no development or plot direction? that's so pointless, even autobiographies from actual people are tweaked to to show plotlines and arcs to make it engaging.

I feel like this is ragebait but I just can't prove it yet. Also give me sources that support the "chasing arcs are a core element of a decent story" because this is so out of pocket I have never heard of this my whole life.

Go read fairytales if you can't handle a little bit of morally grey characters or actions. Just because it's fiction doesn't mean everything should be all sunshine and rainbows and molded for the audience's satisfaction.

lol sources for wat? u never been to primary school fam? it's literally taught that a good story needs plot and character development to make it at least good, and chasing arcs is one of the plot devices that allows that since it showcases the progression of the plot and the changes that that the characters went throughout throughout the story. I like morally grey characters myself but this one ain't it, wat u think acting problematic is all good so long as they have a sob story to back it up? lmao, how basic is ur taste? probably worse than mine then.

And it is having plot and character development, it's just not the way you lot want it. You're sounding like a broken record with this chasing arc shit when the story hasn't even picked up yet since jiho came back to Korea. Who knows what'll happen in the next chapters? Maybe it will have one but that doesn't mean that's the only way to have character progression. If jiho and yujun are together again, why can't they heal together and sort their problems together, why does one have to grovel to the deepest pits of the earth just so they can get a pass? And I'm not defending jiho's actions but who are you to say what one should or should not do, everyone has different ways of coping. Maybe you just don't have the mental capacity to understand a complex character that's why it's so quick to label someone as problematic but what would I know, I may be talking to a twelve year old and I wouldn't know. But what I know for sure is that you don't like the story that you are reading so kindly just drop it if you hate it so much and stop ruining it for the people who wants to read in peace.

dafuq? now who's assuming things here now? character development where? it's already ch42 and the build up for the mc to have more self respect just went back to square one with that simp move. Also did I say that chasing arcs are the only way? I said it's "one of the plot devices" to have that, and yes a story can NOT have chasing arcs for the characters to develop and the plot to proceed, wanting accountability for the problematic acts a character did aint the same as wanting chasing arcs either-- a character can reflect and improve by themselves without relying or chasing another person, which is also why I personally prefer them not being together (yet), they're both problematic af like ur real life friend that never learns and keeps getting back to their ex, but then drains your energy by venting out to u that they're hurt and want to be better (w/o actually doing anything to be better), this is why it's a frustrating and unsatisfying read, that shit's already what I have at home, don't need it in my fiction too.

And fyi, sources are cited to support statements otherwise, whatever you just said is insubstantial. You clearly haven't done any research in your whole life based on your response. I feel sorry that your education failed in educating you, if you ever had one.

did I say that? again, comprehension is really lost on u, and it's u who feel bad for my education? lol, I said it's frustrating not that it affects me too much that it makes me unhappy for the entirety of my life, because just like my friends irl I want these characters to have better development and better life, but nah we have readers like u who insists complex/gray = problematic when it's really not

So in conclusion, you want to be happy and you want the characters to be happy. Then I have a very great proposition to you! You can either go find another story to read or you can write your own fanfiction. You don't have to be lounging in the comments section looking for people to fight with you, y'know

here's a few of the top ones that I have on hand, there's more but these are more recent and aligns with the topic at hand. I ain't giving a free copy, buy and support the researchers if you really are set on reading it like u said:

(Green, M. et al (2024) Narrative transportation: How stories shape how we see ourselves and the world) -- This one cited the effect of narratives in actually persuading/influencing its audience's behaviors, w/c is why I will always call out accountability for shitty actions by characters so the dimwits who thinks these are okay just coz it's fiction can somehow be reduced even by just a fraction of a percent.

(Wimmer, L. et al (2021) Reading Fictional Narratives to Improve Social and Moral Cognition: The Influence of Narrative Perspective, Transportation, and Identification) -- This one actually contradicts the one above and concluded that narratives alone don't necessarily affect a reader's social or moral compass, rather it's on the reader's existing traits such as empathy that heightens familiarity/identification to the characters/plot which then influence their behavior after reading, so if you're already a pos and reads works with pos characters, that has better chances of amplifying your problematic behavior (not guaranteed, but more likely)

(Lehne, M. et al (2015) Tension–resolution patterns as a key element of aesthetic experience: Psychological principles and underlying brain mechanisms) -- This one backed up how anticipation and tension-resolution aka actually giving satisfying plot that makes sense is neurologically more enjoyable and fulfilling for consumers of media (not just books)

    also a bonus:
(Cohen, AL, et al (2015) The Power of the Picture: How Narrative Film Captures Attention and Disrupts Goal Pursuit) -- This one's on films, not comics, but it explores the attachment that audience experience towards characters when consuming media even when fully aware that these are not real people nor real situations, further emphasizing that the empathy derives heavily on one's personal experience.

nah, once again, comprehension eludes you so fast, it's ridiculous at this point. Did I say I want happiness? a happy ending? I said better life for the characters; a person abused in a prison and gets paroled will still suffer with all the discrimination and hardship in the outside world, but by god is that not better than living day to day in actual hell instead? Similarly a person who only wants to be with one person is in a better situation without them if being together means breaking each other bit by bit until they completely lose themselves in the end. Also why can't I read this and comment how I want? I'm not the only one who shares the same thought anyway + it's my right just like how it's ur right to disagree, I'm arguing because I have a point to make, and I will call out things which I deem worthy of being called out
