i think he’s a white american that somehow met haebeom’s mom and learned korean.

Considering he said he had terminal illness 40yrs ago, I feel like he came to Korea for his bucket list, met Hyeonji and had a relationship/ONS, when they went back home for further treatment.. Knowing American medical care, he was probably working his butt off since then to pay off his medical debts and make enough money to travel back to a Korea. People forget that not everyone who travels internationally is rich.
