There are absolutely bad metaphors. Metaphors can be used to manipulate with people's perception. (I'm not saying you are doing that on purpose)
With yours you are massively downplaying the gravity of a situation by comparing a child to a chicken. You absolutely don't treat a chicken the same way as a human being.
Imagine making an metaphor like this: You just have to sacrifice a little chicken by beheading it. Farmers kill chickens like that.
Doesn't sound too bad right? Well, it's for what you have to do with your child.
Completely different vibe.
Another one: to get out of this strange land you just have to poke people into their bellies!!
Poking bellies stands for killing them by cutting their bellies open.
By framing something the way you did, you took away all the nuance and downplayed the suffering of the MC and her future child and her bf.
Guys guys guys, if you went to a foreign land and someone took your visa (your only way to go back) and said "If you take care of this chicken for a whole year, I will give back your visa" wouldn't you do it as well?? She is being coerced here!
If she tells the boyfriend about it, he could even kill the chicken and there goes their chance to get the visas back! Of course she has all the reason to feel guilty, but she not telling him is also smart, because they haven't been going out for long.
