he didn’t cheat but he was so emotionally unavailable during her pregnancy. and she’s always been aware how high society thought of her, “the villainess who was preventing gladys and bjorn get back together,” “spoiled, new money brat.” her every move was being criticized and at first she could take it because she was falling in love with bjorn, but eventually she realized her entire life was going to be a punching bag for high society so long as bjorn kept gladys’ affair a secret. all the tabloids and gossip talk about erna instead of bjorn now. then she realizes her child will bare the harsh treatment of high society, tabloids, and gossip as well. bjorn thinks, not that it’s a good thing, but because he believes erna can endure it, he will compensate her in other ways, so he never told her the truth about gladys. this all culminates roughly into erna telling bjorn that she can’t do this anymore and bjorn tells her to “just act like a doll that breathes and smiles only for me.” and that breaks her. so yeah, i truly think all the tabloid gossip (rumours caused by his affair), learning that bjorn kept a major secret from her the whole time, realizing bjorn might never truly love her, and realizing bjorn was fine with making erna and their future child a shield for gossip, made erna miscarry…. and obviously after the fact, he removes all baby items to not remind erna of what she lost out of consideration, but erna, already heartbroken, takes this gesture as him not caring that she lost their baby. ugh. word salad. so he didn’t cheat but he hurt erna so badly imma need a long and thoughtful chasing arc from him
my bad, by “rumours caused by his affair,” i meant like the truth of his affair came out where bjorn was actually the victim in marriage fraud or whatever. erna realizes bjorn was ready to make erna live the rest of her life a a shield to keep society under the impression that gladys was innocent.
