using "i tried my best" and "its all google translate" in the same sentence is like saying someone who makes "art" using solely AI is a real artist

I don't think you fully understood the point of what we're trying to comunicate to you. This translator was not paid to do the translation, as they said they're not even a translator, they just did it because t... Meliodas

well i *know* that much of what i'm trying to communicate to you all is fully being lost on most of you unfortunately. so i guess im interested enough to reply.

you don't need to be a translator or even to be at a translator's level to have enough basic understanding of both the source and target languages to provide a better/more accurate interpation of the original text than google translate. i had something written out here about how there's no reason to give backpats for deciphoring the meaning from the gibberish that google translate spits out as this gives you the textbook definition of the words in a sentence thats void of all the context of it being used in the story, but low and behold with more research and i discover that the "translator" is literally just using deepL translate and copying the result LINE BY LINE. no alterations. i'm sitting here with the french translations and snipping tool on my pc feeding it into deepL translate right now. 30 seconds per page. they have/are doing NOTHING of actual effort lmao.

and "can't even notice that its google translated" even though it reads like dogsh!t with one of the worst font choices possible is laughable to me, as unless you're just glazing over the text while you're "reading" or English is not your first language, its *really* obvious that its machine translated with its clumsy and awkward phrasing. one line has them saying they have "temporary visibility" in a white out snowstorm after soo-ya just said that they COULDN'T see in the previous panel on the same page. like ????

i don't care if the "translator" is hurt by what i said. part of being on the internet is coming to the realization that people can critique your low effort content if you put it up publicly for people to see. piracy or not though, i didn't know that expecting the translator to know the language they're trying to translate was too high of a standard to have. my bad for that i guess?

i can't decide between responding with "no" or "okay, but you first," so here's both instead!

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. I don't know if it even make sense to continue this conversation but here I am doing it. No, English isn't my first language and all I was saying is that I was grateful to the translator because he did for me something I would have to do myself otherwise, because I wanted to read the chapter. I have used reverso context to read raws sometimes and it is a hassle, at least for me. I understand your reasoning, using google translate and the like to traslate something, a machine to do your job without putting any of you in it, is not artwork, in par with using AI. I've read many manga translated with sentences that didn't make sense and I wondered then why the translator didn't just rephrase it, but then I thought English wasn't their first language too. The point is this is not an official site where you read mangas legally, but one in which you mostly read unofficial translations. I don't understand why would you expect effort from the other side, when they're not paid to do this job that's not even a job or theirs. They just do it because they love mangas and want people to be able to read it, I think. And I'm talking about the groups of translator, cleaners, etc., the translator of this chapter is just a random person so I don't think it's right to have expectations at all. That said, I don't have against you, just liked talking to you I guess. Have a good day (=・ω・=)

i don't have anything against you either, but it doesn't really seem like you understand what i mean though.

again, pirated or not really doesn't matter in this case. many of these works do not have official translations to even purchase. often times the people who do have the necessary skills required to translate and do it for free because they enjoy the process or whatever decide to not re-translate something that is already has "translations" out for it. its just a bit weird how so many people seem to not care about the actual words of what they're reading or if its even accurate or not. genuinely why bother having it crappily translated when people clearly don't care about the text in general is my perspective. there really is the option for them to not provide a crappy reading experience for the sake of their own vanity. the "translator" could of translated it into Australian strine which is still technically still english and understandable yet wouldn't fit the setting whatsoever, but based on this convo, you all would still expect me to be "grateful" because they put the bare minimum of effort into it lol

but w/e we can agree to disagree. most of the users on here i already know only have the capacity of reading at a surface level anyways, so i really shouldn't be too surprised.
