I also hated that he was like “let me just throw them away!” when he was also someone who grew up in poverty and had few possessions. Then I realized that he probably DID get rid of any old clothes or reminders from that time as soon as he could to push himself away from the kid he used to be and the suffering he endured. I also like that he fucked up though and that it wasn’t a magic fix. The old him (from like what? 2 chapters ago?) would have yelled at Dan for not being grateful immediately and stormed off. I need him to suffer more tho.

Normally I definitely agree, but Dan would never ever accept a gift card, so pretending they were not a gift but stuff he had to throw out was actually a great move... Until the tossing his clothes part. We can just hope he doesn't force him to wear the new ones, now (aside from the swim suit)
Bro got a little extra brain, not a whole one yet

That’s actually a really good point! Gifing an entire wardrobe is nice in theory before you realize it’s just them dressing you up in what they want. irl this would only work if you REALLY know your partner and maybe replaced older clothes with newer higher quality versions and then let them decide what to keep from their old clothes. It also depends on the receiver. I hate shopping for clothes so if my partner knew my size and what clothes I would gravitate to, I would appreciate the clothes over the stress of having to try on things and shop for them.
Ok so, 2/3 of his plan for this chapter was actually good. Realistic? Nah.
I doubt a real man would wake up one day and magically be able to change this much for LoVe, but JK isn't real so i can appreciate the transition.
Cringed real hard when he said he tossed away Dan's clothes because, yes you got him new clothes but SUPER controlling move AND super toxic if you ALSO toss away his property in the process. Thank god he just tossed them in a box.
The swimming lessons are the best decision this guy has ever made in his entire life and if I could I'd put a golden star sticker on it.
