Probably the Jegal family head overexerted his powers and his power is something along the line of searching the past? Not sure. Just a guess.
He's known to be frail and shouldn't use martial arts to recover from his qi deviation (it's so long so I'm not 100% sure) and he used it hence he was pale and hands are cold.
i don't understand why she got chills from the jegal head's explanation? may someone explain why she felt that way.... im getting that she feels unsettled by his behavior but why? what's wrong with it
