Confused?

I still don't get what's wrong with their pair thought? Can someone help me out? Except obviously they have different expectations? Why is Chinatsu so worried about Tatara going ahead of her when she's been dancing longer?

Not exactly sure if I'm answering this correctly but here's my take on it. Imagine Chinatsu as a independent woman, used to being relied on instead of the other way around. Then here comes a man who she needs to depend her life on. She wasn't ready yet and she has trust issues. Tatara never really surpassed her, he was just waiting for Chinatsu to give herself to him. Dancing partners are like married couples.

So to be a good pair, they need both technique and her reliance? And Tatara is getting technique, but she still can't trust him? And it is this point that is holding the pair back?

Chinatsu has perfected being a leader. Her partner, Akira, all had to do is follow her lead and Chinatsu will do all the work. This is why Akira was attracted to Chinatsu; she is reliable and Akira's protector. Chinatsu does things on her own. In competitive dance sport, the female partner has to rely on her male partner, just the follower, specially in Standard division since they would always be connected. Add in physics, if the follower contradicts the force applied by the leader, the couple would slow down. The form and beauty of the female partner would decrease if she adds force since she would look stiff.

At first, Chinatsu is intimidating Tatara because he lacked skill but as he improved, Chinatsu needed to rely more on him until they backed out from Shizuoka Tourney. Chinatsu finally gave in to Tatara (thus the four legged thing came up) but since they backed out, her trust on Tatara crashed. Instead of putting Chinatsu back into dancing and defeating Akira, Tatara failed her. Thus, it was hard for her to rely on him again. Chinatsu already gave up on dancing, she doesn't want to re-live that disappointment again. But in the recent competition, she's giving in more since Tatara is giving what she wants, control over her, until the last chapters where she finally recognized Tatara's efforts to work with her (court her) and finally gave all herself to him. Noticed they became even faster that they are already blurred out? Because Chinatsu's weight is not contradicting Tatara's anymore. **Sorry for the long reply.

    So interesting. @Reality bites

Interesting indeed. Specially the romance part of the story. When thinking about it there really isn't any. The characters aren't really in a relationship or working one, like how typical Romance genre is done, either shoujo or shounen. But looking deeply into the plot there is, the dancers are in a relationship. Tenpei Cup and Hyoudou camp make more sense when you think about them as romantic couples. Hence, the series is labelled as Romance. Though, I don't see Tatara liking Shizuku in a romantic way, just a fan of her.
