it's already kinda hinted in the last chapters, It's so that Nain would forget about his past. Last chapter Nain mentioned he dreamt about his past self and mentioned it to Amon which leads to the ritual in a dungeon or cave so he'll forget about it
Read people saying nothing happened him even so I still doubt the old creep like the way people of nain wasn't allowed there...I mean I want a trustworthy person to keep watch(inside the room) while they erase their memory....just to be safer
the guard who interact with nain kinda trustworthy ngl, i think ppl who said nothing happened lied since it's already hinted in the last chapters
