We read it for the plot

(But also, i thought the answer is obvious ? Lol. By definition yaoi is '' plot what plot smut '' :-D so it's basically good art made into porn, and what is porn made for ?
It's designed to be stimulating and WELL , very stimulating, lol. (Personnally I take my yaoi reading as a subject of experimentation of what I find '' super stimulating '' and hot. Not all yaois have that effect on me.) and also, you will find plenty of BL stories with a whole intricated plot and interesting relationship+character development still called '' yaoi '' on this website. Generally I read those because they are interesting more than * super stimulating * lol.
I disagree that yaoi readers are '' fetishizing gay men '' because I personnally never think about real gay couple, I just don't. I just feel empathy that real life people found each other and are visibly happy and supportive to each others.
Seeing the engagement under all the BLs with some plot, I'd say most readers (me included) read it for the plot/romance rather than the smut itself. I also saw a lot of readers that are frustrated when there's no uninterrupted smut though lol, like "why put plot into my smut"
