I don't think she meant his dad was gay, just that boys were always chasing him. That's how I read it, at least... though maybe they were a couple where they marry and have a child as cover for one of them? I remember seeing a show where they do private "marriage" ceremonies for gay couples in Japan. They asked a guy (his voice was changed and you couldn't see him) if he would leave his wife (who knows he's gay) if they legalised gay marriage - he said no. Many said no, that their wives were their best friends and they wanted to stay with them... so maybe a situation like that?
