simple theory

haven’t read the novel
he’s a demi-god/god-like entity who very likely has thousands of years of history with the mc either through reincarnations or her also having some sort of reality breaking ability of her own that’s prolonged/responsible for a very long life. they have a history, and for him to care this much i doubt it’s just one normal human lifespan.

she either is responsible for him being here, his ability to use his powers freely to manipulate reality/her reality, or is the only one that has some kind of resistance to his powers or can kill or stop him.

regardless he knows she’s powerful enough to stop him now, or she stopped him from achieving something in the past. this causes a grudge or an insecurity so deep, a frustration so large that by the time he gets the opportunity to enact his revenge or evilness- this resentment has turned into a genuine lust for the one he can never truly defeat, and the only circumstance he can bring her down is by erasing her memories completely and forcing her to love him every single day.. which isn’t a true loss- considering she isn’t herself in those moments, which causes the ml to have some sort of breakdown which the fl will make the stupid choice of forgiving him and happily ever after, give or take some suffering for him that has little to no consequence on him compared to what he puts mc through.

i already know that, i didn’t consider it anything new since it’s so obvious and instead it aware the creator has borrowed this character for this universe and included other stories as easter eggs- but this isn’t as insteresting to me as the shit fl will go through, since i’ve read lovecraft myself.

Ah okay, just the way you were describing him as a possible demi-god and how you described a possible origin and him erasing memories everyday was more vague.
With him being a specific God from Lovecraft it helps explain the specific scenario they are in.

For me, with the knowledge of who is he supposed to be and how the story has shown itself so far, I don't think the FL has a long life and MIGHT not have reality bending powers. She definitely has the ability to see things others can't, but I don't know about anything past that yet. Like she def has that resistance to his powers like you said.

I think they both were in a previous reality and he lived in it like a normal human and FL was the only one who could see his real form. He then harasses her and sticks to her because no one should be able to do that. He slowly falls in love with her, and wants her to like him back, but she still dislikes him. Then something happens (maybe she really does have an actual accident or maybe she does have strong powers that go out of control or something) and he starts a new reality which would affect everyone's memories including hers, but with her ability to see through that, she is able to not be fully influenced.
I think the memory loss comes from the fact that it's overwriting their reality.
