i actually just hoped he said the truth to hyeonji before leaving because i think it's in her personality to support her husband to get medical care in another country,,, like they could've continued their communication and i think that would actually help him remember earlier rather than having a memory revival after 40 years (like seeing a letter from hyeonji while being in the hospital before the start of the surgery) LIKE didn't he bring anything to the us(?) that would remind him of hyeonji, even a picture that maybe would spark a "who's this girl?" after the surgery
