As someone that wanted to hate the dad, after his story I genuinely can’t. As someone that works with people that also have heavy diagnoses as cancer/heavy neurological issues, you really can’t understand the impact it has on memory until you witness it. People can’t remember if they showered a hour ago let alone remember someone else. So even (as some people suggest) he would’ve written it out/wrote the name down it wouldn’t have changed anything. He probably would’ve read it and forget about it that exact same day. Usually in these type cases people can’t even ever live alone afterwards bc they’re bound to the help and structure others provide. We all would wanna live in a world where ‘true love solves everything’ but unfortunately we don’t.
I noticed that with my grandma. She didn't recognize my mom until she ate some weird pistachio ice cream when she randomly started calling her her daughter again but half an hour later she had forgotten her again. Brains are so weird sometimes

I’m so sorry you had to experience that (and your mom as well). It genuinely is so scary what our brains can do when damaged.
