If you mean theoretically, I think it's just a style that has become popular lately, idk why, I haven't kept up too much with modern anime but maybe it's inspired by something. I've noticed it in Our Sunny Days and some other recent manhua too where there is no supernatural undertones they're totally human.

Does this also have a supernatural spin to it? ML ears look like a werewolves, is that part of a mutilation the gang does or is it his normal anatomy? MC ears are also weird and look like they used to have similar anatomy that he then surgically removed/changed?
