My thought process is bc he’s religious n maybe finds penetration sex with the same sex to be a sin but doesnt find loving the same sex in other ways is not a sin or not as sinful compared to having penetrative sex… again just a guess since in early chaps or flashbacks the dad is shown to be a very religious person and god fearing
