I dont think so. But hé thought that an assassin had come so that's why hé has the gun in his hand. If it's behind his back, i think it's for the symbolism you found, but also not to take the risk to shoot her by accident.
Erratum : it would not be the symbol of his suspicion but of the idea that hé's dangerous for her and can kill her if hé feels betrayed
