Have you read the extra where the author explains the premise behind the tiers/powers/tricks/levels/ranks? It explains that for someone who has high tier status you don't need to activate your abilities in order to be able to use them on some level. In fact, another commenter and I have been discussing that very thing so if you feel like joining in, do let me know! :)
Oh! Back when Sera and John were attacked by the invisible guy, Sera asked John how he knwe they were being follwed. Maybe it has to do with his powers? Maybe he detected a power being used, like Remi detected those chips? What do you think?
