People are complicated.
Toxic relationships in real life wouldn’t exist if people didn’t believe in “love above all else.”
With that said, in regards to this story, I think we need to see it from the historical context.
Yes, what Heeryang did was horrible, but he was just following orders, which seem like a BS excuse, and it is, by modern standards.
We tend to forget that things such as human rights weren’t really a thing in ancient times. If poor people continue to be marginalized nowadays, back in those days it was even worse.
Granted, Yeonjo wasn’t poor when his family was slaughtered, but political treason was a big no-no and it dragged everyone down. Regardless of whether his dad was guilty or not, he was considered a traitor and that sealed all their fates.
Even Heeryang is not necessarily seen as a person proper, but more like a sentient weapon.
I think on the context of the historical setting, their love story can make sense. A part of Yeonjo will always resent Heeryang for making him an orphan, with the understanding that it wasn’t personal.
Ultimately though, I think I’d like a death and reincarnation plot twist where they can meet again in modern times and develop a happy and healthy relationship with no baggage, because whether or not love can blossom given their circumstances, the baggage they carry is very heavy.

And so once again, Bl authors provoke a question to which I’ve given a lot of thought too
‘’can one really fall in love with their enemy? Being fully aware of who they are and what it is they’ve done to you?
Ideally the answer should be no but yet again it plays out in this manhwa as well, a victim falling in love with the perpetrator of their misfortunes……
In reality, do you think such a notion might be possible?
Is hatred and love really two sides of the same coin?
If indifference is really the antithesis of love, can it fuel revenge ?
