"I'm starving for a story were the general populace has some form of personal agency rather than be blind followers of whoever is in "charge""
Me too, but if there is one thing I've learned is that Asians are constitutionally incapable of seeking justice in the face of power. "Shikata ga nai" is the prime directive. This also manifests in every stupid mc, usually female, who gives up at the first sign of actual resistance and twists it into some self righteous pity party sacrifice.
Nope, more like incompetence at finding good stories. There’s so much Korean manhwas that have very strong or smart female characters. It’s not uncommon to go the „damsel in distress” trope, but it’s definitely not that dominant, at least with female MC’s, Shounen is absolutely trash at writing women.
I have found far worse female characters in shoujo than shounen tbh. But I could be misjudging since I'm far less tolerant with an annoying mc than I am a non mc character.
Though I have noticed one interesting trend. With shounen, the male fantasy being played out, if it occurred IRL, would more or less actually make those involved happy. But with shoujo, if the female fantasy played out IRL, it would end in bitter disaster for everyone involved. This is a generalization, but it's definitely a noticible pattern.

If the general populace / knightage / palace staff would just all accept the 2nd princess with minimal resistance given all the things MC accomplished.

I mean , seriously, who, in their right mind, prefer a princess who was MIA during the whole fiasco over the one who took command, forced the invaders to retreat, brought order & peace during war times, and makes good well balanced plans toward restoration?
.... I have a feeling bitch princess has some mental gymnastic prepared to spin all that shit & take all the credit, no thanks to the double agent knight oldy with her (screw you)
Also, MC better not be a doormat / have no backup plan. She better show some goddamn definitive character development with regards to being a royal. It's been long enough.
