I did Fantranslations myself in the past and was active in those circles and ideally people do them because they love the stories, but many because they hope to get paid for them. Many fantranslators don't even support the og creators financially but source illegal uploads or wait-untill-free chapters, which makes it even more morally questionable when they take money for it.
Currently we have an uncomming industry for official English Translations of our favorite Korean novels (though they vary in quality)! And Fantranslations currently, espeacially those of fantranslators who don't wanna take down their illegal version even tho we have an official one, or those who earn from it using donations or patron etc. are actively harming the process to make korean novels more accessible worldwide. The ebooks don't even cost that much compared to regular modern fiction.
And we already have a wide selection. I think the Korean BL masterlist on Twitter has listed over 130 officially translated Korean BL novels...

I’m being so genuine when I say: y’all, I love this story and I am obsessed. I’m reading the novel, and, for the first time ever, have paid for fan translation. I’m SOOO obsessed.
