Magical rifts (also known as portals or gates) begin to open and spew monsters into the world. The origin of these rifts were unknown. Ever since the appearance of the first rift, various people from all over the world started to develop powers. The exposure from its force began awakening the latent abilities in certain individuals. Over time, society classified those affected into two key roles: Guides and Espers.
Espers “The Awakened”: Espers are individuals who gained offensive, defensive, or sensory powers due to prolonged exposure to rift energy or surviving close encounters. May suffer from instability, sensory overload, or mental strain due to their powers. Espers have to use their power to fight the monsters, but if they overexert they can become monsters themselves. The only thing that can stave off corruption is the touch of a guide. This is done by holding hands. However, all physical touch can become guiding.
Guide “The Stabilizer”: Individuals with emphatic, mental, or support abilities. They can stabilize the Espers whose minds are overwhelmed by rift energy.
When they’re registered, Guide and Espers are assigned a ranking from S to F, based on how powerful they are. Specific guiding-matches between an esper and a guide can also be tested and measured, although that’s done in percentages. Typically, the efficiency/match rate between a guide and esper is around 60%, so espers can become very possessive of any guide they have a higher than average match rate with.
Bonding is also possible, which greatly increases the efficiency rate of guiding, but also means that an esper can never get guiding from anyone else…which also means an esper can never outlive their guide.

Can someone explain to me this esper-guide universe thing?? im sorry im new to this and i kinda dont get it is it similar to the abo universe thingyy???
