Polygamy is not responsible for their relationship going awry, dawg... this is an historical setting, where marriages were made for convenience (i.e. birthing kids and politics) most of the time. Whether Nathaniel feels politically threatened, or actually likes the king, the *setting* is the only thing responsible for making him miserable
