Rereading this for the nth time and the whole "shoot him 3 times and rape him for a week which is not only sexual trauma but literally reopens his wounds each time" thing is just beyond cruel and ver unrealistic. The author could have just used either shooting or rape and made their point of the bastard going nuts but combining them and making a regular civilian go throw that and actually survive without any long term issues is a bit silly
Also, while I appreciate that the author added the detail of the nightmares later on even after they got back together, the fact that the very next scene after the extreme rape and bleeding is some cutesy moment in the snow is....a choice. Again, the lawyer is a regular guy who just recently got involved with the mafia. He isn't even some trained agent or anything like that. Yet, you want me to believe that after all that trauma, he saw his abuser and was like "I'm not even flinching as you approach me and kiss me"?
