Guys, be honest, am I weird for NOT thinking they look so young?
I really find shotacons disgusting and would absolutely have dropped this if I thought they looked like kids, but they look perfecly grown ups to me...? Idk if this is just bcuz I got used to the "baby face" animes and mangas usually have, tho -even for adults
The only real problematic thing I see is their age. Honestly, I'll never get why japanese authors (assuming this is the case here) choose deliberately the high school set for most ecchis, instead of university - wouldn't be that much of a change...

Since anime teens look exactly the same as anime adults, reading a sexy manga set in highschool reminds me of watching any american show where the actors are all 20yos (or even 30yos) playing highschoolers. In my mind all these characters are played by 22yos. (Sometimes a yaoi will have "teen" characters that make you go, that is a 35 yo man)
Its still a weird trope in either case but i think thats why it doesnt bother me. (Tho sometimes the characters really do look way too young and i gotta nope outta there)

Yea, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks like that! I'm actually surprised I never thought how american shows are the same as this hahah
I confess I avoid high school animes and etc as much as possible - specially bcuz I'm quite done with this theme and teens in general -, but some of them are just silly and fun to watch/read.
Honestly, high school ecchis shoudn't even exist. In cases like this manga, i'm also like "they're in college and have 20yos". But this only works if they genuinely look like the typical adult animes portray.

no because the way them being in highschool literally adds nothing to the manga is what's crazy there was no reason for them to be high schoolers! I've definitely noticed that a lot of mangas like this are less crazy in Japan. I've witnessed first-hand people defending elementary schooler x highschooler because "it's not that weird in Japan" like what

Bro that's insane... Idk, I don't want to be the person to judge other people's culture, but this whole sexualization towards kids in Japan is so open it's ackward af. Honestly, I've heard that happens bcuz they're really unhappy with the adult corporate life and those stories might bring back the old happy days or something but still... weird.
And just to clarify, I'm not saying this doesn't happen in other countries - it certanly happens in mine -, and USA also has a bunch of movies sexualizing teens-with-20yo-faces, but some animes and mangas are just too criminal, ya know?

Tbh the only thing I can think of is that it's more believable for highschoolers to have a first love and first relationship than university students who could've more experience. The story is usually more innocent than when it's a Uni setting.
Not saying it's the case for everyone obviously.

    Noxart November 10, 2025 7:02 am

Also, more people have been to highschool than University, so maybe it's easier for the readers to be nostalgic of that period ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I get it and I think that's the also the reason... But, I mean, korean webtoons are usually set in Uni, and for me they're very similar - which is why i prefer them over mangas when i'm looking for a lighter content (. .)/
