It's the fact that he was a functioning human being before (because he was holding himself back), but now that he's let go of *all* inhibitions, he can barely function (and it's toxic). Yes, he was always obsessive but he knew where the limits were. Now, he acts like he won't be spending time with his uke if they go out with others. He's like half a step away from confining them both to a room... also, he didn't get into any relationships because he was in love with the uke, not because he gets obsessive.
He made it clear in the several agonizingly long chapters of why he wouldn't date Inseo that if he did, that dam "his ability to provide a clear, healthy boundary" would break. Go back and read it, he couldn't have been more clear.
