Yeah, the novel is way better! I dont understand the resoning behind these changes.
The manhwa has good material to adapt and yet they choose to do this.

this is pmo and making me sad, i read the novel bcz the first chs of the manwha interested me on the plot, although the novel was sooo vanilla and it was also slowpaced it was good bcs etty was strong decisive and showed determination to change the future. He was trustworthy to be the king.
Richard was never this possesive and this typical estereotyped alpha he supported etty and wanted the best for etty. He was a green forest in the novel...
They have ruined everything, and its making me sad bcs the novel wasnt that masterpiece but the manwha is turning to be horrible.
I highly recommend reading the novel and giving a try to the sequel of this novel as it has more plot imo.
