I mean, Chay kind of played himself. Keaton already told him that he didn't care for social outings, yet you make him go to one with a friend that you know is an asshole? That's someone you introduce when the foundation of the relationship is already stable. None of Remi's jabs would have mattered if Keaton trusted Chay more at that point.

Because they are friends since childhood, and Remi is not that way everytime. I think he felt atracted to Keaton, and he was suppressing it by being an asshole.
    It's what happen to homophobics.

I have a friend that I would not introduce to someone I was trying to date until we were stable. It's common sense that if you have to say "Oh Remi is like this all the time" that you probably should be cautious about introducing someone new to them. Especially someone that is already on edge with you as is, and has said he doesn't like social interactions in the first place.

It's far more complicated and understandable than this. Remi isn't attracted to Keaton

It was never explained what he felt when he met Keaton. But it was obvious that he knew Keaton was gay.
