Exactly... Author couldn't exactly borrow someone else's ultra horrifying character, let alone borrow Lovecraft's ultra horrifying character... and turn it into a "nicer dude" without some lenghty explanation, now, ...could they? So, this *is* their lenghty explanation..
A shame the most horrible parts of the story was just glossed as flashback. However if we are going by fl's mindset, aka her current amnesia, even if I read those horrible things I feel like I can somehow get over it. Since we haven't really been there when it happened
