The side stories try to inject some normalcy into their cohabitation arrangement but frankly, the relationship is still just as abusive and controlling. Jiwook became masochistic because of this abuse; Juyeon tried to treat him normally but realized that Jiwook could never be normal again. Jiwook accepts that he can no longer live without Juyeon and his control/abuse. It's no longer abuse for the sake of abuse.
