First, while I don't know exactly whose fault it was that the inn wasn't prepared ahead of time for foreigners, I can't help but wonder that they didn't notice when checking people in. You'd think they would realize ahead of time they were going to need English speaking staff at dinner, so that was a mistake on the part of the management.
Second, quite a few comments here have faulted the MC for being openly unhappy about the job, and with some justification. BUT if you had applied and felt lucky to get a job that then turned out to be something else than what you were led to expect but couldn't afford to quit, I think most people would take a few days to get over their disappointment and to appreciate perhaps the job they did get.
