It's because bl manhwa is quicker in English translation than Japanese bl who literally you can wait a year for official English translation. Update time is also not as fast as korean manhwa, and most jp bl has quick sex scenes with just penetration rarely foreplay, short problem solving in the complicated conflict that lack the feeling, and forgettable design. I'm gonna be honest. And I'm still buying on manta.
Your take is interesting. I personally prefer manga over manhwa because only if a manga is interesting enough (most of the times) it’d get a second volume. I think that limitation allows for insane creativity to come out and forces an artist to utilize every page.
Imo, I found that korean manhwas have lately gotten repetitive. I love smut like anyone else but it’s sooo drawn out with no exploration of new kinks or anything lately and frankly, have gotten more and more unrealistic (can you tell I hate the monster dicks lmao which I noticed japanese mangas don’t have)
Sorry for rambling but anyway, I feel like korean manhwas have gotten more popular and more artists, translators, and platforms have emerged which is fine. I just hope jp manga gets its throne back too lmao
I used to prefer manga more as I'm an old gen fujo (though I'm a genz just got into bl at the age where I shouldn't be reading that) and my introduction to bl is thru manga. But manga most of it lack something that I search for, it's as if they dont plan the plot enough. I disagree with repetitive though, literally there's a lot of varieties in bl manhwa with so many options and easy tags search in official site like r1d1, mr. Bl√e, b0mto0n, tappy, lz, etc
I mean both manga and manhwa have variation but it's easy to search and explore our preference in manhwa as they mass produce unlike manga who lately even the publishers gave the mangaka a hard time to sell their bl
I personally prefer manhwas because the more chapters there are the more chances of plot development there are, and also due to the fact that the BL manhwas I have read had more interesting fantasy/dystopian/rofan worldbuildings than BL mangas who most of the times are modern romances (still love them, but you get what I mean).
HOWEVER you're right that there aren't enough mangas on the homepage, I find a lot of gems through other people's reading lists but almost nothing on there... it's such a pity because this is also probably why A LOT of mangas' translations never get continued: the less people discover it, the less the chance of it being picked up by a new translator

Does anyone else feel like the BL genre has been lately dominated by korean manhwas?#-.-) some of them are definitely good and I love them but I also miss just reading 6 chapters instead of 60 lol
