Yeah, he's tryna do the right thing by letting him go, but on an instinctual level he can't stay away because of the bond and because he loves him.
I read the novel, and Ido is like.. keeps tryna gaslight himself into thinking otherwise, but his actions are so clear. It's like telling yourself if you keep smiling then you'll one day be happy.
