The boys being supportive and the girls being homophobic is the most unrealistic part of this manga but I guess it’s fiction so it’s fine
I just hate when girls are painted as homophobic boy crazy characters in bl when they’re often the most supportive of the lgbtq community

real, of course girls can be homophobic too, but its statistically shown that women are more likely to be less conservative and more progressive than men. plus homophobia often stems from/overlaps with misogyny.

Yess like yeah there are homophobic girls out there but they don’t usually go out of their way to sabotage one gay couple’s relationship because one of them is hot. And not to go too deep into it but girls constantly being homophobic in BL to excuse the “handsome guy” being an asshole and spewing misogynistic remarks towards them (commenting on their makeup, calling them pigs, saying they’re ugly) definitely stems from internalized misogyny.

It's bullying justified by envy. Don't understimate how petty teens get when their public crush gets all chummy with someone they don't respect. Since it is a boy they go for the gay, when it is another girl they go for the ugly.

I get the feeling its like jealousy and possesiveness, like they felt he'd come swooping in, and there'd be a chance for them to win his heart...maybe the boys besides his friends are like now i have a chance to fimd a girlfriend

while i do agree with this as a gay man, i also think that doesn't apply to all cultures around the world. so i would give the author the benefit of the doubt about japenese highschool girls actually being like this

i can't acces the full papers without signing in, but i found a summary- "In Japan, women generally show more acceptance of homosexuality than men, a trend supported by data showing higher acceptance rates among women. Men tend to hold more negative attitudes and are more likely to be homophobic, potentially due to the persistence of hegemonic masculinity and patriarchal structures. Women's greater acceptance may stem from cultural factors, such as their significant participation in and readership of "Boys' Love," which could function as a form of resistance to patriarchal restrictions."
