The ONLY positive thing I can say is he at least stopped himself and said « I need to cool down » this time, but still, damage was done, he’s unable to frickin communicate, he’s agressive and violent but then gets insecure thinking « aah oh no, she scared of me », he doesn’t take her side of things into consideration and just starts YELLING at her every time, he never took the time to really get to know his fuckin wife and i hate him

Actually, Riftan has EVERY right to be mad at Maxi. She is a noble born woman with no experience on the battlefield. Hell, she has no real experience being anything outside of a shut in naive girl due to her family's abuse and neglect. Yes, the Calypses are the reason she is becoming someone who can be great and I love that for her, but it is stupid of her to enter a battlefield without any knowledge other than people can get hurt and die, she not only puts herself at risk, but others too, since even the female clerics are probably prepared in what to do in case of an ambush/attack. As she isn't a real cleric, she has no idea of what to do, and it's understandable why Riftan is so angry.

He is afriad for his wife's safety!

He knows she's a liability, because now he's going to have to change things around so she's safe with those he knows can protect her, either another knight or Ruth, which will then mean one of his men who should have been fighting is pulled aside to protect Maxi, because he cannot lose her. That is how much he loves her.

The argument of Riftan being unable to communicate is stupid. Yes, he stopped in his rant because he knew he'd say things he'd regret, but that doesn't mean that this conversation is over. Maxi is also no better at communicating her own feelings as that is something she has always struggled with due to her upbringing, but this is actually a good thing because this is going to lead to certain boundaries being put in place in their marriage, and Maxi is more than likely going to be forced to experience the cold hard truths of war now.

And by the way, Maxi isn't afraid of Riftan, Riftan also knows this, because none of her body language when he showed his anger pointed to fear at all. And honestly, he has no reason to consider her side of things because what Maxi did is selfish. Yes, she loves him and is worried about him and while I'm happy to see them finally reunited, I understand more of what will happen with Riftan if Maxi gets hurt because of this. I mean, she's already exhausting herself, so who knows when she's going to collapse under the stress and that can become bothersome when they need to focus on the upcoming battle.

Have you even considered what would happen if someone outside of his knights found out about Maxi being there? There could be consequences, consequences that Riftan will take on himself as blame for her actions, because he loves her and doesn't want her to deal with.

Also, Riftan makes the time that he has to get to know his wife, the issue is he has a dukedom to run, which is his responsibility, obviously outside of when the crown sends him and his men here there and everywhere on missions. It's not Riftan's fault he's not able to be by Maxi's side 24/7, he cannot disobey the crown and his kingdom, otherwise that will start conflicts, putting his people and Maxi in danger.

    He won't do that.

This is their first genuine fight as a married couple and they will get through this just fine, but expecting Riftan to just be "Oh well, my wife's on the battlefield as a disguised cleric." and not be angry at her is ridiculous. At this time, he cannot be a husband, he is a soldier. He cannot afford to focus on Maxi when people can die any moment. Riftan is a veteran to wars, so he knows the strain it brings, he's probably exhausted, stressed and fed up with the war, but at the moment all Maxi has done, despite her pure intentions, is add more stress to overwhelm him with.

What happens if Maxi almost gets hurt in future chapters and Riftan makes the sacrifice play and gets injured??

The war efforts will suffer. He is one of the strongest, if not the strongest soldier on the battlefield and he cannot afford to spend time worrying about his fragile wife. And yes, she is fragile, she has no athletic experience. She struggled to ride a horse for long periods, which is expected during war, so even if she has her own strenghts, athletics and defence aren't one of them.

So this series is about two broken people. TWO; Maxi and Riftan, they are both flawed characters but that’s what makes them relatable. Maxi can’t grow without Riftan and vice versa .
All his actions make sense when you realize where he comes from; I’ve read all the books and while it’s not an excuse both him and maxi are broken people.

Real! To demand Maxi show her own development. She couldn't even find the courage to fix her own stutter when she was by herself cause there was no point in doing it. The title itself is so obvious, the story of the nymph and a hero...
