I’m so perfumerypilled bro

The moment I saw the bottle in joohwan’s hand I thought ‘wait isn’t that a Frederic Malle bottle?’ And went to fragrantica to check which one (it’s the one developed by perfumer Dominique Ropion called Vetiver Extraordinaire). Saw all of this and then scrolled down to see that it was exactly that perfume (albeit with some spelling changes) oof I’m such a fucking nerd about this shit.

Re:notes personally I’ve never tried perfumes with citrus top notes that mellow out into spicy middle and woodsy base notes (which is the profile for this particular perfume). Lately I’ve been eyeing FM’s portrait of a lady (lovely name; also developed by Dominique ropion) so maybe I’ll buy a sample both of these.

ANYWAY about the chapter sihyun is highkey a minx bro the way he’s sooo ‘yeah this? The stuff we do together?’ About the marks Joohwan leaves on him is crazyyyy he’s so hot.

I’m not as into it as my sibling who is the one who got me into it. Honestly many perfumery houses have a distinct look to their bottles (JPG, FM, Byredo, MFK,LV, Madison M Margiela, Xerjoff, Tom Ford, PdM, Creed, Diptyque etc etc). It’s very much a branding thing. Passing familiarity with popular expensive perfumes is enough to recognise these bottles. With Frederic Malle it’s not that I recognised the exact perfume at the outset (I looked it up on fragrantica), but that I saw the labeling look very similar to perhaps their most famous scent, Musc Ravageur. From there it was easy pickings.

Yeah perfumes are a very expensive hobby. I think this is why joohwan makes it a point to say he uses his very sparingly, but maybe it’s being used up more because he applies/wears it before meeting sihyun and them meeting frequently would result in quick depletion. Honestly this is the thing I’m confused about specifically because FM sells this is mostly in 100ml bottles. Even if it’s the only scent he uses, finishing 100ml is very difficult within even 4 months so I’m flummoxed by that lmao.

My country has a lot of people. Even if 0.0001% of the population had this specific hobby, that’s a very sizable market. If they can afford it, a huge culture around the hobby arises. As a consequence, not only are there a lot of perfume sellers, they’re also a lot of decant sellers and strong exchange cultures re: perfumery, not to mention ALT makers and perfume clone developers. All that to say is either I’ll get an official set of samples from a reputed seller that has both perfume samples or I’ll buy them from a decant seller. If you want to look into getting into perfumery, I recc looking into your specific country culture around the hobby.

it’s kind of nice seeing him be someone who probably makes a decent living but isn’t frivolous with his purchases. it’s such a realistic indulgent splurge haha
