Totally agree. This story is sooo common and female lead can't even stand up for herself without a 'man' and her personality is so bland it makes me want to pull my hair out. When the crown prince tried to slap her, ml be coming out of nowhere like he's stuck in her armpit 24/7 guarding her weakass. Like it's fine if she can't fight, but she fr doesn't have any ounce of trait that makes her interesting. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
I don't understand why no one understands what it means to be traumatized. First of all, the protagonist isn't awake, and she doesn't need a man to be strong. The thing is, she was despised for 14 years, by her family, her fiancé, and everyone around her. They hated and despised her, and especially when you're despised by your family, by those closest to you, it's horrific. Naturally, she has very little self-confidence, and Edwin was the first person to stand by her, help her, and listen to her for an extended period. Sure, he provides her with the income to boost her confidence, and she tries to rise above herself, but it would be just as positive if it were a woman instead of a man. But it‘s a Romance Story.
i recognize the trauma, i need to understand the setting the character is in. again, the world building is an absolute mess.
the antagonism of the royal family and madeleine family is basic: they're incompetant and evil. big woop. why are they incompetant? why are they evil? whats their motive? whats their goal?
okay, the FL is an affair child and things went downhill since her coming into the family. but why did a daughter of that family really need to marry into the royal family? why doesnt her family at least make her presentable? why cant the prince marry the marquis'daughter (the classes arent that far apart)?
this is over 35 chapters in and there is basically no real plot besides family evil save me
I can understand that the story is a bit loose in certain places and doesn't really explain or tell things well, and I agree with that point. What bothered me about the comment was what was said about the protagonist. I mean, if you don't like her, that's fine, but there are many stories where the protagonist has traumas, and these are usually discussed as if they have to be overcome immediately and it would be the easiest thing in the world. That just threw me off. She definitely has some weak points. I can imagine that one of the daughters has to or is supposed to marry the Crown Prince to gain power over the Duke, and because of loyalty. The Emperor said something like that, and he realizes that he's not the brightest bulb. It's obviously about power, but it's really not well explained, and I hope they'll improve it.
i think throwing the excuse of trauma around is just flimsy storytelling. there are so many ways to write about trauma reaponses and the author chose to do it poorly. theres a difference between trauma induced isolation and just a character that takes her whole life and over 30 chapters to learn her family truly doesnt care about her. but no, the author chose to write about how she keeps getting her hopes up... for what? for something to change after 20 years ?

not sure how this has a high rating. the plot is subpar with way too many plot holes and plot armor. FL is bland, not that im looking for a bad bitch, but give me something more than untoasted white bread and a thin layer of mayo. art is subpar, which would be excuable if the plot was worth reading.
things that dont make sense:
- i get it, they hate her, but if she's taking the role of the crown princess she needs a better foundation. if they truly cherish the madeleine name, they would at least provide better education, shut the gossip around their name, etc. whether they like it or not, she carries the highest rank in the household and therefore is the most representative of their name.
- there is barely any explaination of the world we're in. the history between the dukedom and royal family and how he became the "dog." the oath ceremony and the "rules" around that tradition. name dropping specific garments as if they have a special meaning but never explaining it.
this is the entire plot: sad girl enters mean house and saved by strong man because strong man like how nice weak girl is. the mean family and mean royal family are mad that she switched sides but there is never any explanation as to why it has to be her and why the crown prince just cant marry his lover who is the daughter of a marquis, one rank below a duke and is sufficient status to marry into the crown.
there is no strong female lead, the male leads interest is two dimensional, and the antagonism isn't logical
