This is it, and it would be great if people didn't downplay the optics. It's strange that the first dark skin character we see just so happens to be a weirdo. I know what you're trying to say, but I remind you again of the nuance of optics.
I'm glad you don't worry about living your life through a racialized lens, but others of us have no choice. Just like a lot of... certain people say they see media as a form of escapism (from melanated people ), we too want a form of escapism that doesn't have us centered as villains. So please spare us the "not everything is about race" spiel.
While I mean no malice towards you, whether the author was "going for it" or not, the implications themselves are bad. It's 2025, and we live in the age of the internet. (Not saying you specifically, but) people like to infantalize mangakas when they're East Asian due to there being less Black/brown people in their respective countries, but they have as much access to the internet and cultural information as anyone else.
The **only** dark skin, non-background character that we see being a villain?? Put it back on the shelf, cause I'm not buying it

Interesting how literally the ONLY brown/black character is an ugly rapist. Great job everyone.
