I just recently finished rereading the story from the beginning to the currently available chapter and... It was already addressed. It's just wasn't a big scene, but there was about three times when it was said, by both of them, that they love each other and it is more then simple sex compatibility.
In early chapters there were Richard's thoughts that it isn't only his masochistic desires what made him to hit on Cortney.
Also you definitely forgetting that they slept together. And no, not sex, they simply enjoyed spending time with each other without any plays.
So I don't see the reason to exploit this cliche with them arguing, drifting apart and reunite. I have nothing against such kind of characters development, but it doesn't mean every story must have and especially when the matter was already explained in more subtle ways.

Richard admitted that he have an affection towards her and that he care about her because she played into the role better than he thought she will and Not because of her as Cortney. Nothing about love, he’s not wired like that and he’s not there yet.
Also he never told her or showed her any affection as a person and not only as his master.
The cuddling scene happened only once and it was nice but not enough to build any relationship between them. And let’s be real, when is the last time they had a conversation that didn’t involve anything sexual or a formal setting?
In all her monologue she always, always, ALWAYS stressing about something but she never feels like she can ask, talk or lean on him. she’s careful how she move and what she do because she feel like she doesn’t really deserve the position, and that she have to constantly prove herself so she can repay them for helping her family. That’s how she see the marriage. A contract were she have to be useful constantly and not slip, because she still feel disposable. If she would have thought he have any real affection for her as more than the person who goes with hi sexual whims she wouldn’t be so insecure all the time. So yeah the fact that he admitted to himself that he kind of like and care about her don’t mean shit if she don’t see or feel it and she’s not.
Also, I didn’t say anything about arguing and drifting apart reunite, I said that I would like for her to step back so both of them can look at their feelings and relationship outside the sexual part. This doesn’t have to happen only if they argue, this can also be her taking a moment to herself to realize what she feels. And if it make him see more of her as Cortney and not only his master that even better.

Okay so this might be controversial but…
I would actually like if Cortney won’t punish him and instead actually be in her feelings because of jealousy and avoid/ keep distance from Richard. I feel that they need something to emotionally shift their relationship and make them closer.
because right now it’s sill very shallow and there’s no real feeling even though sexually they very advanced. Because in the end Richard chose Cortney only because he thought she had what it takes to be his master + her family situation knowing she wouldn’t actually be able to refuse. And even though Cortney grew into the role he asked her to take, this girl never received anyone special attention or any affection and I always remember how in the beginning she was actually disappointed and little sad, when she learned that Richard chose her because he thought she can help him sexually and not because he actually had feelings to her. Because even now his affection strive from what Cortney can do as his master for his sexual needs and not from Cortney herself.
