I got the feeling that the author fall into a plot line too toxic, and after a hiatus tried to drive it to a certain non toxic direction but the toxicity wave is just enormous.
He wasn’t gonna risk his comeback match and not have sex, he literally has a jinx, it wasn’t gonna go away suddenly he is on a redemption path, that thing takes time.
